The army in Congo-Kinshasa has stopped an attempted coup by both domestic and foreign actors, says General Sylvain Ekenge in a televised statement according to AFP.
He adds that "the Congolese and the foreigners, including their leaders [...] have been neutralized".
US Ambassador Lucy Tamlin writes on X that there are reports that American citizens were involved in the coup attempt, and that she is "shocked" by the news.
Two policemen and a coup plotter are said to have been killed in a shooting at Finance Minister Vital Kamerhe's residence near the presidential palace in Kinshasa earlier on Sunday.

Three dead in attack on top Congolese politician
Shooting took place on Sunday morning near the presidential palace in Congo-Kinshasa's capital, Kinshasa, AP reports. According to local media, armed men in military uniforms attacked Finance Minister Vital Kamerhe's residence, but were repulsed by his bodyguards.
Three people are said to have been killed, two guards and an attacker.
Kamerhe is running for the position of speaker of the parliament in an election that would have been held on Saturday but was postponed, writes TT.
In a statement, the army calls the whole thing a coup attempt that was foiled, reports Reuters.
