Nightmare weekend complete for Tories after another loss
The Conservative Tory Party had its worst nightmare come true when it became clear on Saturday that the party's candidate Andy Street lost the mayoral election in the West Midlands, which includes Birmingham.
Street lost the election to Labour's Richard Parker by just 1,508 votes. When summing up the local elections in England, it can be stated that the Tory Party lost almost 500 seats in local assemblies, lost a parliamentary seat to Labor and had to admit defeat in two important mayoral elections.
The pressure on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is intense, but internally it seems to have decided that a change of party leadership is fruitless. Sunak seems likely to lead the party in the next election, which will be held no later than January 2025.
"Changing leaders now will not work. The time to do so has passed," writes Conservative ex-minister Suella Braverman in the Sunday Telegraph.

Sadiq Khan wins historic third term
Sadiq Khan has been elected Mayor of London once again. It is clear with the results of this week's local elections, several media reports.
Labor politician Khan received 43.7 percent of the vote, compared to Tory rival Susan Hall's 32.6 percent.
According to Sky News, Khan will become the first ever mayor of London to serve three terms.
