Half of those arrested in NYC did not belong to the universities
Nearly half of the 282 people arrested this week at the pro-Palestinian demonstrations at Manhattan University were not enrolled students, NPR reports.
At Columbia University, 29 percent of those arrested were not connected to the school. The same figure at City College was a whopping 60 percent.
Pressure has mounted on the New York police and Mayor Eric Adams to release the numbers after repeated claims that "outside agitators" were behind the protests. The identification has taken time because most of those arrested have not wanted to cooperate with the police by providing any information.

The opposition: The ban could sabotage the negotiations
The decision to ban Al Jazeera in Israel is absolutely the right decision, but the timing is bad. This is the opinion of the parties in the political alliance National Unity, which is in opposition in Israel.
"It can sabotage the attempts to end the negotiations and stems from political considerations," write the party's top names Benny Gantz, Gadi Eisenkot and Chili Trooper in a statement.
Al Jazeera's Israel and Palestine bureau chief, Walid Omary, agrees that the decision is political, rather than leaning on a strictly professional balance. He calls the decision "dangerous" and says that the media house's lawyers are reviewing what can be done, writes Reuters.
In Al Jazeera's live report, colleague Zein Basravi, who is a reporter in the West Bank, writes that he thinks about what he learned in journalism training:
"The first victim in war is always the truth."
