Macron's gifts: Expensive booze, blanket and cycling jersey
The talks between France's Emmanuel Macron and China's Xi Jinping did not lead to any major announcements. But Xi at least got to leave the country with a symbolic gift in the form of a bottle of cognac, writes Politico.
According to CNBC, it was cognac of the "highest class" and the value of the drink is said to be the equivalent of almost SEK 35,000. France has feared that China will impose tariffs on French cognac, but a source told Reuters that China has given a somewhat reassuring message on that front.
On Tuesday, Macron took Xi up into the mountains of the Pyrenees. There they were offered a meal consisting of lamb, cheese and blueberry pie and gifts in the form of a beret, a woolen blanket and a classic yellow jersey used in the Tour de France cycling race.

Ruling Out the Argument for Waiting: “Governed by the Fed”
Inflation has plummeted from a peak of over 10 percent at the end of 2022 to 2.2 percent at an annual rate in March, and the Riksbank is ready to lower interest rates for the first time in eight years. The question is whether it already happens on Wednesday morning or whether Erik Thedéen and his management choose to wait until after midsummer.
In the money market, the probability of a reduction of 25 points to 3.75 percent is estimated to be 80 percent.
The krone exchange rate has been highlighted as a factor that could make the Riksbank wait. But it will not be significantly affected, says SEB strategist Amanda Sundström.
- The krona's development is now controlled by expectations of the Fed. Not because it has to do with Swedish conditions, but because the Fed's interest rate determines the market's risk appetite, she tells TT.
The Riksbank issues an interest rate announcement at 08:00 on Wednesday.

Astra Zeneca's corona vaccine is withdrawn
The pharmaceutical giant Astra Zeneca is withdrawing its corona vaccine worldwide, The Telegraph reports. The decision must have been made a few months after the Swedish-British company admitted for the first time in legal documents that the vaccine can in rare cases cause dangerous side effects.
Astra Zeneca was sued last year in Great Britain after a woman who received the company's vaccine died. The death occurred in March 2021.
Samtalen mellan Frankrikes Emmanuel Macron och Kinas Xi Jinping ledde inte till några större besked. Men Xi fick åtminstone lämna landet med en symbolisk gåva i form av en flaska konjak, skriver Politico.
