One of the first assignments was particularly close to the princess's heart.
A young photographer with terminal cancer got to meet the prince couple at the castle.
Few pictures have been published of Princess Catherine during her cancer treatment. Some time ago, she published a video on the prince couple's official Instagram account where she told them that the chemotherapy treatment had ended.
Now Kate is back at work, but only has private meetings at the castle.
One of the first assignments was to fulfill a young woman's big dream.
Liz Hatton, 16, was diagnosed with an aggressive and unusual form of cancer earlier this year; desmoplastic small cell round cell tumor.
The diagnosis gives her between six months and three years of survival.
"Genuine and kind people"
Liz has created a so-called "bucket list" where she writes down all the things she wants to experience in life. One of the items on the list is to photograph a concert or other large public event.Prince William heard about Liz's list via a visit to London Ambulance Helicopters and invited her to photograph a medal ceremony at Windsor Castle.
After the event, Liz Hutton and her family had a private meeting with the Prince and Princess.
Kate couldn't help but give Liz a big, warm hug.
- It was a pleasure to meet Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength have inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and your story with us, the royal couple wrote on Instagram.
Liz responded with a post of her own on social media:
- Such lovely, genuine and kind people. I'm totally blown away that me and my family got to experience this.
