Guterres' response: Obviously I condemned the attack
Secretary-General António Guterres says in the UN Security Council that he condemns the Iranian robot attack on Israel, reports AFP. It happens after Israel declared him persona non grata because it is believed that yesterday's statement did not imply an "unequivocal condemnation".
Shortly after the drone attack, Guterres said that an escalation in the region must be stopped and that it "should have been obvious" to everyone that he condemned Iran's actions. He says the robot attack does no good for suffering Palestinians and again calls on all parties to deescalate.
- This deadly cycle of violence must end.

Top commander reportedly pushed for retaliation: "The assassination of Nasrallah was the final straw"
Senior commanders in Iran convinced the country's political leadership of the need to respond forcefully to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. An Iranian source told the Financial Times.
Iran is said to have concluded that Israel "will not stop" but also to invade Lebanon, and the commanders are said to have stressed that Iran will lose support and that the country's reputation will be damaged if a powerful revenge is not forthcoming.
- The assassination of Nasrallah was the last straw, says the source.
Iran's new president Masoud Pezeshkian is said to have advocated a moderate response to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya this summer.
Iran fired up to 200 missiles at Israel on Tuesday night and Israel has promised a response to the attack. Joe Biden says on Wednesday that he would not support attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran.
