Alpine borders are redrawn when the glaciers melt away
Parts of the Swiss-Italian border in the Alps are being redrawn as the natural boundary shifts as a result of melting glaciers, the BBC reports.
The border drawing will affect, among other things, an area near the Matterhorn, one of Europe's highest mountains, and several popular ski destinations. Switzerland signed the agreement on Friday and Italy is expected to do the same shortly. Once finalized, the exact demarcation will be made public.
In 2023, Swiss glaciers decreased by four percent.

The oceans are warming twice as fast as in 2005
The warming of the ocean is happening at twice the rate compared to 2005, according to a new report from the EU's climate service Copernicus. This is reported by AFP.
The increased rate of warming is linked to climate change caused by humans.
