Analysis: For opponents, it's not about fighting - but about waiting it out
While the world tries to adapt to an existence where Donald Trump is president again, he himself is preparing to make a splash in office. CBS News' Robert Costa quotes Trump loyalist, Republican Senator Jim Banks, who claims that Trump will begin his term by "strolling down Pennsylvania Avenue, throwing open the doors to the Oval Office, signing 100 executive orders - or more - and reversing the misery of the last four years".
The Washington Post's Dan Balz notes that we are on the threshold of the third - and most important chapter - in a turbulent political career that has no parallel:
"And Trump is impressing more than ever, with a parade of business leaders, foreign heads of state [...] who have traveled to Mar-a-Lago to pay their respects".
The New York Times' Peter Baker writes that the climate has changed dramatically since Trump was sworn into the White House eight years ago. That defiance has been replaced by consideration. That for his opponents, it is now not a matter of fighting, but of waiting him out.
Trump during the Mega-Magic Meeting: "Will act strong and fast"
In front of a cheering crowd in the Capital One arena in Washington DC, Donald Trump is now giving his speech.
- Tomorrow, at noon, the curtain will come down on four years of American decline. A whole new day will begin, he said at the beginning of the speech.
- I will act with historic strength and speed. Solve every crisis our country faces.
In a long speech, Trump then switches between different topics of conversation. Smiling, he talks about the summer debate when he talked about the cannibal Hannibal Lecter, a character in the movie “The Silence of the Lambs,” during several election rallies.
“They point out that he is made up. But there are actually many in our country who are worse than him,” Trump said.
Tomorrow, Trump will be inaugurated as president of the United States again. His “victory rally” is now underway in the Capital One arena in downtown Washington, DC, several media outlets report.
In addition to Trump, Elon Musk and incoming Vice President JD Vance are also expected to give speeches.
Musk brought his son on stage: “Stronger forever”
With his four-year-old son jumping around his feet, tech profile Elon Musk made his entrance next to Donald Trump during the rally in the Capital One arena in Washington, DC.
“We will make the United States stronger for a century to come. For several centuries to come.” Forever, Musk said, raising his arms in triumph while glancing anxiously at his happily jumping son X Æ A-Xii (the name is pronounced X).
When Trump takes office as the 47th president of the United States, Musk is expected to be given a key position, responsible for cutting costs within the American government.
After a few minutes, the duo left Trump alone on stage. The president-elect looked after them both with warm eyes.
– Imagine his son is called X. Only Elon can do such a thing.
