Expert: China shows off advanced missile – a signal

Aircraft equipped with hypersonic missiles are believed to have been used in the ongoing Chinese military exercises off Taiwan, reports the South China Morning Post.

In a video clip released by the Chinese military, an aircraft that appears to be carrying YJ-21 missiles is seen taking off from a runway.

The missiles are used to attack targets at sea, and have a range of over 1,000 kilometers. Timothy Walton, a missile defense specialist at the conservative American think tank Hudson Institute, says that China is probably showing off the weapon system to send a signal to the United States.

- It is a signal that it has the ability to attack targets at long distances, and that includes the United States and its allies.

China: Practicing shelling of targets on Taiwan

China is conducting military exercises with sharp weapons near Taiwan for the second day, reports Reuters.

According to the Chinese military, they are practicing precision bombing of ports and energy infrastructure on the island.

China considers Taiwan to be part of its territory, and has repeatedly threatened to "reunify" it by military means. On Tuesday, Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te was called a "parasite" in a statement.

Chinese expert: We should become more popular than the US

Pro-regime experts in China describe it as the country is in a showdown with the US – and that the only way to win is to become more popular in the world. This is reported by the South China Morning Post.

Beijing must "make as many friends as possible and as few enemies as possible," says Li Wei, a professor of international relations at Renmin University.

The statement comes at the same time as China is conducting military exercises outside Taiwan, a country that has US support.

Since Donald Trump took power, the US has continued to increase pressure on China. Last week, it blacklisted another fifty Chinese companies.
