90 Percent of Plastic Made with Coal and Oil

Of all the world's plastic, less than a tenth is made with recycled material, and the rest with coal and oil. This is according to a new study according to TT.

In 2022, only 28 percent of plastic waste was sorted during waste management. Around 36 percent of the waste was thrown into landfills, and 22 percent was incinerated.

Between 1950 and 2022, plastic production increased from two million to 400 million tons annually. The largest consumer per capita is the United States – 216 kilograms per person per year.
 

State of emergency declared in Lanzarote after torrential rain

The dry holiday island of Lanzarote, which has 300 sunny days a year, was hit by a torrential rain on Saturday, where 60 millimeters of rain fell in two hours. This is reported by several media outlets.

Pictures show large amounts of brown water rushing down streets and there have been reports of flooded houses.

A state of emergency was declared by the authorities, writes Reuters. However, no one was reported to have been injured in the floods.
