White House may cut State Department funding for UN and NATO
The White House wants to cut the budget for the State Department and the little that remains of the aid agency USAID by almost half, according to documents obtained by the Washington Post.
In the cuts of a total of 48 percent, which are described as an early proposal, the department's funding for the UN and NATO, among others, will cease completely. Humanitarian aid is proposed to be reduced by 54 percent and investments in global health by 55 percent.
It is unclear whether the proposed cuts would be supported by Congress, which has a Republican majority.
