The senator supports Israel’s attacks on Iran – because the Bible says so
Repeats Trump’s choice of words: “We”

Listen to the article•4 minutes

US Senator Ted Cruz wants to help Israel overthrow Iran.

Why?

– Because we are biblically commanded to support Israel.

The Texas Republican and Senator Ted Cruz is strongly in favor of a new American military involvement in the Middle East.

His position is that Iran today poses the greatest threat to US security.

– I believe that Israel is doing us a massive favor right now by trying to remove Iran’s nuclear capability, he says in an interview with Tucker Carlson.

About the support: “Will be blessed”

This interview, which was published in its entirety on Carlson's website on Wednesday, is confrontational in nature. During the nearly two-hour discussion, they clash several times.

They have both supported Trump and mutually state that they agree on 80 percent of all political topics. But when it comes to whether the United States should intervene militarily in new international conflicts, they have completely different views.

And Senator Cruz’s main reason for his unconditional support for Israel, and their attacks on Iran, is based on religion.

– As a Christian, growing up in Sunday school, I learned from the Bible that those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who condemn Israel will be condemned. From my perspective, I want to be on the blessing side of things.

Arguing about the Bible

The statement puzzles Carlson, not least because Cruz cannot refer to where in the Bible God talks about supporting Israel.

– So you quote a Bible phrase. You have no context for it and you don't know where in the Bible it says. But that's your theology? I'm confused. What does it even mean? asks Carlson.

– Where does my support for Israel come from? First, because we are biblically commanded to support Israel, Cruz replies.

Then follows a long discussion about which Israel God refers to in the Bible.

Is this the same Israel that is today ruled by Benjamin Netanyahu? asks Carlson.

– Yes, Cruz replies and adds:

– Who, by the way, does not rule the country like a dictator.

Repeats the word “we”

The US role in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran is on many lips right now.

Many eyebrows were also raised on Tuesday when US President Donald Trump made an update on his own platform Truth Social.

“We now have total control of Iran’s airspace”.

So “We”, not “Israel”.

During Carlson’s interview with Cruz, this pronoun was repeated.

– We are carrying out military strikes today, says Cruz.

He is then quickly interrupted by Carlson who points out that the White House has denied that the US is acting on behalf of Israel – and that Cruz has previously said that it is Israel that is carrying out the attacks.

– Correct, with our help. I said “we” – Israel is leading them, but we are supporting them.

The attack afterwards: “Got crazy”

Another heated discussion arises between them when they talk about Iran's demographics.

Cruz then admits that he has no idea how many people live in Iran.

– You don't know the population of the country you want to overthrow? How can you not know? Tucker Carlsson questions, followed by an exchange of words about the relevance of these statistics.

It is clear that they do not agree.

After the heated interview, Ted Cruz commented on Tucker Carlsson's opinions in his own podcast.

– When it comes to foreign policy, Tucker has gone completely crazy. He has completely lost his mind.
