The future of the Republicans
Taylor Greene considers leaving the Republican Party
Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has been one of Donald Trump's most vocal supporters, now says she is considering leaving the Republican Party because she believes the party has lost touch with the Maga movement.
- I believe the party has turned its back on America First, on workers and ordinary Americans, she says.
Her statement reflects a broader dissatisfaction among voters with both the Republican and Democratic parties, writes The Guardian. According to a Wall Street Journal survey in July, 63 percent of Americans have a negative attitude towards the Democratic Party, while the Republicans are only marginally better off.
CNN: Rubio not an unlikely successor to Trump
It's not just the Democrats who are feverishly trying to find the right candidate for the 2028 presidential election - even within the Republicans, things are moving behind the scenes, writes CNN.
As vice president, JD Vance may seem like Trump's heir apparent, but that's not certain, says the channel's political reporter Eric Bradner.
- When I visited Iowa recently, I was surprised by how often Secretary of State Marco Rubio was mentioned in the same breath as Vance.
Unlike Vance, Rubio has run for president before, and thus many Republican voters already have a relationship with him since the 2016 election campaign, according to Bradner.
Another Republican candidate in 2016 was Ted Cruz. He has built a network of donors and is a recognizable figure in the party, which could be advantageous if he runs in 2028, Bradner says.

Trump attacks radio personality: "Racist scumbag"
On Sunday, Donald Trump lashed out at radio and television personality Charlamagne tha God after he was interviewed by the president's daughter-in-law Lara Trump on Fox News.
In the interview, Charlamagne tha God, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, criticized Trump's budget, among other things.
- I am against anything that takes (the state health insurance) Medicaid from people and puts them in a worse financial position than before, he said.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump calls the radio personality a "scumbag" and a "racist dunghill".
“He has a low IQ, doesn’t know what he’s talking about and doesn’t know anything about me or what I’ve done – like ending five wars,” the president wrote.

US backs down: Will not arrest 3,000 migrants per day
In May, Donald Trump’s advisor Stephen Miller was clear about how the immigration police ICE would push through the president’s “mass deportation agenda,” writes Politico.
– Under President Trump’s leadership, we will set a goal of at least 3,000 arrests per day, and the president will raise that number every day, he said in an interview with Fox News.
Last week, federal judges wanted more information about that goal, but the administration denied that it existed.
The Justice Department announced that ICE had not received any directives at all regarding a specific number of arrests or other efforts.
