Global warming continues to be a concern.

The big concern is the 1.5-degree target – and scientists warn that a new phase has begun.

Urgent action is now being called for.

The Paris Agreement's 1.5-degree target worries the EU's climate service  Copernicus, C3S.

A new report shows that October 2025 was the third warmest ever globally. The same trend is also visible for the entire year.

"Increasingly rapid pace"

According to the organization, the change is occurring at an "accelerating pace of climate change".

“We are now in the decade where the 1.5 degree limit is likely to be exceeded, highlighting the accelerating pace of climate change and the urgent need for action,” says Samantha Burgess, Strategic Director for Climate at Copernicus.

Due to the 2025 temperatures, three consecutive years (2023–2025) will exceed 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial temperatures for the first time. Global sea temperatures are also close to record levels and the Arctic is continuing to melt, according to the report.

Increased emissions

This week, the EU announced that it is  ”on track” to achieve its 2030 climate targets for greenhouse gas emissions.

At the same time, Sweden’s emissions have increased. In 2024, seven percent more greenhouse gases were emitted than the year before. At that time, statistics from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency showed a sharp increase in emissions from households, the construction industry and the   transport sector.
