Farage under investigation – received gift worth 65 million

Nigel Farage, leader of right-wing populist Reform UK, is under investigation for having received five million pounds without reporting this, British media reports.

A parliamentary inquiry will find out whether Farage violated the rules of the House of Commons with the gift.

It was before the 2024 election that Nigel Farage received five million pounds (then equivalent to approximately SEK 65 million) from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, who lives in Thailand, without reporting the contribution. Farage claims that the gift was "purely private".

The money is far from Harborne's only contribution to Reform; last year, according to The Times, he donated 12 million pounds to the party.

On Wednesday, the government introduced a bill that would limit foreign political donations to a maximum of 100,000 pounds.
