Eurozone drops – lowest PMI in five months  

 

Eurozone economic development appears to be slowing down. It shows the combined PMI retreated to 50.3 in June compared to 52.8 in May, notes Reuters.  

 

It is barely above the important 50 mark, which marks the shift between growth in the economy, and significantly lower than what the estimates pointed towards. In addition, it is the lowest quotation in five months.  

 

However, the figure is likely to be welcomed by the ECB, which last week raised interest rates again to bring down inflation.

The submarine wreck of the Titanic  

Cameron draws parallels to Titanic: "Was warned"  

 

There are several parallels between the sinking of the Titanic and the disaster with the submarine Titan, says "Titanic" director James Cameron to ABC News. 

 

- That such a very similar tragedy, where warnings were not heeded, should take place in exactly the same place, with all the diving going on around the world, I think is just astonishing, he says.  

 

Cameron, who has made more than 30 expeditions down to the wreck of the Titanic, says the company Oceangate received several warnings that security on the Titan was inadequate. Similar information has been published by CBS News, which writes that one of Oceangate's former employees sounded the alarm that the peepholes were only certified to withstand the pressure at a depth of 1,300 meters. Titanic lies at a depth of almost 4,000 meters.

Norwegian minister resigns - gave opera job to friend 

 

Norway's Culture Minister Anette Trettebergstuen is resigning, she announced at a press conference. The background is a revelation that she gave a friend a seat on the board of the state opera.  

 

Trettebergstuen is also said to have been involved when two of her former colleagues in the Labor Party got board seats in the state-owned gambling company Norsk Tipping.  

 

During the press conference, a teary-eyed Trettebergstuen said she did not know that rules of engagement prohibit ministers from proposing or nominating friends or colleagues for jobs. 

 

- I accept the consequences of my mistakes and resign.
