King Harald's health

King Harald is on his way home – the plane has left Malaysia

King Harald of Norway is on his way home from Malaysia. The plane took off shortly before 06:00 Swedish time, Norwegian media write.

In a press release at 05:00, the royal house announced that Harald will be flown to Norway for further treatment at the Rikshospitalet in Oslo.

“His Majesty the King will shortly be on his way to Langkawi airport for medical transport home. Her Majesty the Queen will travel with the King," the court wrote.

He will now be on sick leave for another two weeks. King Harald has long been plagued with health problems and during his visit to Malaysia he was forced to have a temporary pacemaker operated on.

The King of Norway has received a temporary pacemaker in Malaysia

Norway's King Harald has received a temporary pacemaker due to a low heart rate, Norwegian media reports. The 87-year-old king is currently in Malaysia.

- The decision was made this morning and the operation was successful. Based on the circumstances, the king is doing well, but still needs to rest, says the king's anesthetist Bjørn Bendz.

Yesterday, the Norwegian court announced that SAS medical flights had landed in Malaysia to fly the king home to Norway. The journey home will probably take place within a couple of days.
