Stubb is now president: "We can get by when we are united"
Alexander Stubb has now been sworn in as the new president of Finland.
- I take on the task with humility and gratitude, says Stubb according to Yle.
In his installation speech, Stubb says that a new era awaits Finland with NATO membership. The world is changing and a new world order is being built, he says. It requires realism, but fear is "the worst possible guideline for foreign policy".
He also thanks outgoing Sauli Niinistö, writes Hufvustadsbladet.
- You led our country in a stormy time. You worked tirelessly for the good of all of us. At the same time, you showed that we can cope when we are a united nation. And we were.
Later this afternoon, Stubb will hold a press conference.

Parliamentary elections in Iran
Iranians Boycott Elections: "What Difference Does It Make?"
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was the first to vote when the polls opened in Tehran in the morning, writes AFP. The elections for parliament and the council of experts are the first in Iran since the mass protests that rocked the country following the death of 22-year-old Masha Jina Amini in 2022.
Many expect a very low turnout, not least since two out of three candidates were excluded in advance by the religious guardian council. 21-year-old Hanna, who does not want to give her last name, tells AFP that she is indifferent to the election results.
- Say I would vote - what difference would it make? The politicians do not follow through on their own promises, she says.
Iran is grappling with a series of problems, "too many problems," voter Sajjad told AP.
- We are sorry and we express our criticism as much as we can. God willing, those in charge will start thinking about us.
