Technical failure causes delays and canceled departures at several of Germany's airports.
Swede Hannes Hedell, 33, is based in Frankfurt.
- The feeling is that it will take many hours, he says.
Frankfurt airport has suffered delays and canceled departures "due to a technical problem with the German air traffic control", they write on their website.
Hannes Hedell is waiting at the airport with his family to be able to travel on to Seattle.
- We hang out here at our gate where we should have boarded at ten o'clock. There are many people sitting and waiting, and it is a sight to behold to see all the planes parked in a row. They may neither take off nor land, says Hannes Hedell.
Travelers are now being asked to contact their airlines for more information about departures and to be prepared that some journeys may take longer than expected, but Hannes Hedell does not know how long they may remain in Frankfurt.
- I travel with my wife, mother and sister. Someone reads a book and another takes the opportunity to work to pass the time. You don't dare go too far from the gate because we don't know when we get to board.
Cologne-Bonn airport also has problems and now writes on X that it is due to an IT malfunction at the German air traffic control.
