Volcanic eruption in Iceland – Grindavík evacuated
A new volcanic eruption has erupted south of Grindavík in Iceland, reports Ruv. Over 200 earthquakes have occurred on the peninsula since this morning. The crack is about 500 meters long and extends inside the dam north of Grindavík.
Evacuations have begun in Grindavík and warning sirens are sounding around the city. About 200 people have been evacuated from the tourist destination of the Blue Lagoon.
The magma eruption began around 06:30 on Tuesday morning, according to information from the Icelandic Meteorological Institute.
