Netanyahu changes his mind about the new security chief
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday appointed Eli Sharvit, former commander of the Israeli navy, as the new head of the Shin Bet security service. Now he is backing down from his decision, news agencies report.
Netanyahu thanked Eli Sharvit for being prepared to take the job, but has now informed him that there are other candidates being considered for the position, the prime minister announced according to Israeli media.
It later emerged that Sharvit had publicly opposed Netanyahu's government and US President Donald Trump's key policies, AFP reports.

Netanyahu associates arrested - allegedly involved in "Qatargate"
Israeli police have arrested two high-ranking associates of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reports the Times of Israel.
They are both suspected of involvement in the so-called “Qatargate” scandal, which concerns illegal contacts between Netanyahu’s government and the state of Qatar.
Previously, a close associate of Netanyahu has been indicted on suspicion of trying to plant pro-Qatar news articles in the Israeli press, on behalf of the Gulf state.
