Russian invasion Negotiations

Russian Minister: Cannot accept US proposal

Russia cannot accept the US proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine as long as the “underlying causes” of the war are not addressed. This is what Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said according to the Moscow Times.

– We take the US’s proposed models and solutions very seriously, but we cannot accept them as they are.

Putin has dismissed the US and Ukraine’s plan for a 30-day ceasefire, and countered by saying that Zelensky should be excluded from the negotiations, removed from power and replaced by a transitional president.

This made Donald Trump go crazy. In a statement, he said he was “very angry” with Putin’s statement.

German Minister: US-Ukraine talks stalled

Donald Trump’s attempts to mediate a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine have reached an impasse. This is what German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said during a surprise visit to Kyiv on Tuesday, according to the AP.

For this reason, continued support for Ukraine by European countries is “absolutely vital,” she added.

More optimistic tones are coming from China, whose Foreign Minister Wang Yi says it is “encouraging” that talks between Washington and Moscow are continuing.

Sources: US gives up hope for quick ceasefire – increasingly angry with Putin

Donald Trump's administration has given up hope of reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming months, and is now planning new ways to put pressure on Moscow and Kyiv. This is reported by two sources with insight to Reuters.

Trump has had a tough tone towards Zelenskyj, not least during the high-profile visit to the White House. In recent days, however, it is the anger towards the Kremlin that has grown, even though the president outwardly signals confidence in Putin's willingness to cooperate.

In a series of internal meetings and conversations over the weekend, US government officials expressed their anger at how Putin dismisses all US proposals, according to the sources. Punitive measures such as new sanctions and tariffs against Russia are now being considered.

“There is deep frustration with the Russian government regarding negotiations,” says National Security Council spokesman James Hewitt.
