Russia pours cold water on hopes for peace deal
The Trump administration has reportedly wanted to see rapid progress in the peace talks, but Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says the issue is too “complex” and that it is not worth the trouble to try to reach a quick agreement.
– It would be wrong to set a tight deadline for a workable agreement, it would be a thankless task, Peskov said according to the AP.
According to Western analysts, Russia wants to continue the war because it believes it has momentum on the battlefield and wants to conquer more Ukrainian territory.
On Tuesday, Russian drones attacked the Ukrainian port city of Odessa and Russian glide bombs from aircraft hit the city of Zaporizhzhia, according to local authorities.
Kremlin: No reason to rush a ceasefire
It is not worth setting a tight timeframe for when Russia and Ukraine can agree on a ceasefire, says Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
On Wednesday, representatives from Ukraine, Europe and the United States will meet in London to try to find a proposal that can be handed over to Russia. Donald Trump has expressed hopes that the matter will be concluded this week, something Peskov is thus playing down.
- The issue is so complex that it will be difficult to set a deadline in the short term, he says in an interview with Russian state television according to AFP.
Kremlin: Witkoff makes fourth Russian visit this week
Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to visit Moscow later this week. This was stated by Russian foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov according to state-run Interfax, writes AFP.
If the visit goes ahead, it will be Witkoff's fourth since Trump became president. Most recently, Witkoff spoke for over four hours with Vladimir Putin.
A meeting is also expected in London on Wednesday between representatives of the United States, Ukraine, Great Britain and France.
