car has hit several pedestrians in Liverpool, where a large crowd is on
the streets to celebrate the Premier League title, British police tell

A large rescue team is on site, and the area has
been cordoned off. The extent of the injuries is unclear. The driver, a
53-year-old man from the city, has been arrested.
Images on
social media that are said to depict the incident show a car driving
straight into a red-clad crowd, and several people fall over. It is then
surrounded by police.
"The scenes in Liverpool are terrible - my
thoughts are with everyone injured or affected," writes Prime Minister
Keir Starmer on X.
Witnesses: Horrible scenes - heard desperate screams

Rinaldi witnessed the car driving into the crowd in Liverpool. She
tells Sky News that she and her friend were watching the parade from the
window when they suddenly heard loud, desperate screams. She describes
the scenes as horrific.
– We looked out and saw that the car had
run over people. Then people rushed towards the car and tried to get
into it, and the police did everything they could to get them away.

Robin Bylund tells Expressen that he saw how the crowd suddenly turned,
whereupon the car came riding at full speed. He and his party have made
their way to a nearby pub.
– All the police are advising us to
stay indoors, because no one really knows what is happening. I
sincerely, sincerely hope that no one has died.
Many question marks surrounding the collision in Liverpool
Several hours after a car drove into a crowd celebrating Liverpool's Premier League title, much is still unclear.
No official information about injuries or deaths has been released, but witnesses have told several British media outlets that they saw several injured people being carried away from the scene.
The motive of the 53-year-old arrested driver is also unknown.
- We have no idea why this incident happened as the police are still investigating, says Kim Johnson, MP representing Merseyside, to the BBC.
The police have announced a press conference later in the evening.
