Political situation in Finland
Criticism against Stubb's son getting a coveted internship
Finnish President Alexander Stubb's son has been awarded a highly sought-after internship at the country's Institute of Foreign Policy, and Finns are not happy, Finnish media reports.
Oliver Stubb, as the son is called, was one of 200 applicants for the position of research assistant. Of these, 59 applicants met the criteria and five of them were called for an interview. Among the other applicants were people who studied at master's level, but Oliver Stubb has only studied for one year at bachelor's level.
The director of the Institute of Foreign Policy justifies the choice by saying that Stubb was particularly motivated and says that they followed good administrative practices.
The situation in North Korea
Kim honored soldiers who fell in Russia's war
Dictator Kim Jong-Un has participated in a public honoring of North Korean soldiers who died in Russia's war against Ukraine, writes TheGuardian.
Pictures show Kim next to a row of coffins draped in the North Korean flag. Several media outlets write that it is an unusual recognition of the North Korean losses in the war.
The event was held in a concert hall in Pyongyang. Russian artists had traveled to North Korea to participate in the tribute.
The Öresund cooperation
Artificial Danish island proposed to become a holiday paradise
Pepparholm, the artificial island between Denmark and Sweden where the Öresund Bridge becomes a tunnel, should be developed into a holiday destination, writes Copenhagen Mayor Jens Kristian Lütken in Sydsvenskan.
One goal of the proposal is to blur the borders between the countries. Cross-border commuting for workers, which was one of the reasons the bridge was built, is far too low, Lütken believes.
“This is where Pepparholm comes into the picture,” he writes, suggesting that the island, which is currently a protected area, be developed with hotels and marinas – to create thousands of new jobs and a place for recreation.
“This is what my vision for Pepparholm looks like,” he writes.
