The ECB is expected to raise interest rates by 25 points two more times
The ECB is expected this week to make its eighth consecutive interest rate increase since July last year - according to the Trading Economics consensus, the deposit rate will be raised by 25 points to 4.0 percent. Several members of the Council have clearly signaled that the ECB has several increases left to do before inflation can be overcome.
In a Reuters poll this week, a clear majority of 59 economists polled predicted the ECB would raise rates by 25 basis points in both June and July, before the central bank takes a pause of 4.25 percent at the September meeting.
At Thursday's meeting, the central bank will have access to new official forecasts for inflation, growth and unemployment in the coming years, notes Direkt. This may give ECB chief Christine Lagarde leeway to convey some guidance on the interest rate outlook going forward. However, she will have to wait until Friday for definitive inflation figures for the EMU.

Musk's rent refusal exacerbates Goldman Sachs' loan problems
Elon Musk's refusal to pay Twitter's rent has contributed to a sharp increase in loan defaults at Goldman Sachs in the first quarter, reports the Financial Times.
Twitter stopped paying its office rent last fall, and owner Elon Musk has said he has no plans to resume them.
That led Columbia Property, which is suing Twitter for non-payment of rent, to default on its bank loans this spring.
The value of overdue Goldman Sachs commercial real estate loans increased by 612 percent during the first quarter to 840 million dollars, equivalent to 9.1 billion kroner.
Neither Columbia nor Twitter have commented on the data.
