Biden tears down Trump's decision - the US rejoins UNESCO
The United States will join Unesco again, just over five years after Donald Trump took the country out of the UN body, AP writes. Trump believed that Unesco took the side of Palestine and had too negative an attitude towards Israel.
The United States has had a stormy relationship with Unesco in recent decades. Previously, it was often about conflicts connected to the Cold War, later it has been more about the Israel-Palestine conflict, according to the news agency.
Representatives of the Biden government have previously said that it is important to be part of Unesco because it is required in the geopolitical battle against China. The justification has been that Unesco is an important gathering place for science and technology.

The president calls for calm after skyrocketing fuel prices
After removing subsidies on fuel, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is now appealing in a speech to the nation for patience, Al Jazeera reports. That after the price has tripled in a short time.
The president says the subsidies have benefited the rich and been too costly for the country financially. Instead, they must now invest in building up infrastructure, the education system and health care in the country.
The country introduced fuel subsidies in the 1970s to mitigate the effects of the oil crisis. The subsidies have been criticized by experts as being far too expensive for the country. At the same time, critics believe that the government has not done enough to support the households that have been dependent on the subsidies, writes AFP.
