Expert: Basically unsalvageable - extremely deep
Even if rescue workers reach the missing submarine in the Atlantic in time, there is a great risk that it will not be possible to save the five people on board before the oxygen runs out in 24 hours. This is what Bo Rask, former head of the Swedish submarine force, tells TT.
If the craft is stuck to the wreck of the Titanic, the first thing to do is to separate it from the terrain and wreckage. In the next step, you have to go down with another craft to get it free. It would also be possible to attach so-called lifting bags to the submarine, says Rask.
- But all this is a logistical nightmare 70 miles out to sea, says Rask and continues:
- Unfortunately, my assessment is that the submarine lies on the bottom like a flattened beer can. It's just garbage left.
Five people are on board the submarine Titan, which has been missing since Sunday.

Quiet, crowded and dark - that's what it looks like inside the submarine
On a surface the size of a minibus and with only a small window facing the sea, the passengers have traveled down towards the wreck of the Titanic, in the submarine that has been missing in the Atlantic Ocean since Sunday.
Pictures from the Oceangate company, which owns the Titan submarine, show passengers sitting directly on the floor with their backs to the curving wall. There is dim lighting but no chairs and barely any room to stand upright.
According to the writer Mike Reiss, who made the expedition down to the wreck last year, passengers are offered sandwiches and water, writes the New York Times. However, he is said to have been told that many are too excited to eat and that the primitive toilet has never been used. At the same time, he describes the journey as "very comfortable".
- You just fall like a stone, he says and tells how he himself dozed off during the trip.
Last year, 28 people did the diving with Titan, writes TT.

Pounding sounds from the depths of the sea raise hope in the search
A pounding sound has been heard in the search for the submarine that is missing in the Atlantic, reports CNN. The sounds indicate that there is still hope of finding survivors, states the internal authority report that the channel has seen.
The sounds were reportedly recorded every 30 minutes on Tuesday, and the pounding continued four hours later as additional equipment arrived in the search. However, it is not clear when during the day the knocking was heard.
During Wednesday morning, Swedish time, the American Coast Guard confirms that sounds have been heard under the sea surface, writes AFP.
