The fact that Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden appears to escape punishment after pleading guilty to tax crimes has immediately angered Republicans in the US Congress, writes USA Today.  

 

James Comer, who leads the Republican-appointed congressional investigation of Hunter Biden, writes on Twitter that the president's son gets away with "a slap on the fingers". He also says that his investigation will continue, writes The Hill. 

 

Senator Marsha Blackburn writes that the prosecutors are "picking low-hanging fruit" when they choose to prosecute Biden for two tax crimes and a weapons crime. She also calls the agreements that Biden entered into to avoid trial and punishment "sweetheart deals".

Hunter Biden admits to tax and gun crimes  

 

Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, is suspected of crimes. That's what the American media write. It is about the fact that he illegally possessed a weapon in 2018 despite abusing drugs, and that he did not submit his declaration and pay taxes on time in 2017 and 2018.  

 

Biden has admitted the tax crimes, reports CNN. According to CBS News, he has subsequently paid the tax, as well as a fine.  

 

Regarding the gun crime, Biden has entered into an agreement in which he admits that the crime can be connected to his drug abuse. According to the agreement, the charges will be dropped if he remains drug-free for two years and does not commit any further crimes, a source told CBS.

The lawyer: Hunter Biden wants to take responsibility for the mistakes 

 

Hunter Biden wants to take responsibility for mistakes he made "during a time marked by chaos and abuse". That's what the president's son's lawyer Christopher Clark says, after the news that Biden is charged with and admits to tax crimes he committed in 2017 and 2018.  

 

- He looks forward to continued rehabilitation and looks ahead, says Clark.  

 

In a brief statement, the White House said the president and first lady "love their son and support him as he rebuilds his life."  

 

In addition to the tax crimes, Hunter Biden is suspected of having bought a weapon without declaring that he was abusing drugs. In that case, he has reached a legal agreement which means that the charges will be dropped if he remains drug-free for two years.
