GPS interference in the Baltic Sea is believed to be intentional

The Maritime Administration has noted an increase in reported GPS interference for ships in the central Baltic Sea since last Saturday, writes Aftonbladet.

The interference is considered to be intentional signal manipulation that leads to the ships' positions appearing to jump back and forth, according to the authority.

- We have not seen it this often and this many reports in the central Baltic Sea, says Sebastian Wigmo, press spokesperson at the Maritime Administration to the newspaper.

Safety at sea should not be affected by the interference, but the Maritime Administration has issued a navigation warning.

- We urge extra caution, says Wigmo.
