India has carried out attacks on Pakistani targets – response to “cowardly attack” promised

The Indian military says it has carried out attacks on nine targets in Pakistan and the part of Kashmir controlled by Pakistan, reports Reuters. The attacks are said to have been carried out against what it classifies as “terrorist targets”.

“No Pakistani military installations have been attacked. India has shown restraint in execution and choice of targets”, writes the country’s air force according to NBC News.

According to witnesses to the news agency, loud explosions have been heard in the border areas. At least three people have been killed and twelve injured, a spokesman for the Pakistani military states according to The Guardian.

Pakistan promises a response to what it describes as a “cowardly attack”, writes the BBC. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will meet with the National Security Council in Islamabad at 07:00, Swedish time.

According to information on state Pakistani television, the country’s air force has shot down two Indian fighter jets, according to AP.

The attacks are taking place against the backdrop of the terrorist attack on Hindu tourists in the Indian part of Kashmir at the end of April. India accuses Pakistan of having supported the perpetrators, something the country denies.

Sharif: “Responding strongly to India’s act of war”

The Indian military claims to have attacked “terror targets” in Kashmir. From the Pakistani side, the picture is different, according to international media.

– A cowardly attack that targeted innocent lives, says spokesman Ahmad Sharif to Pakistani television channel ARY News according to AP.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif himself writes on X that they will respond.

“Pakistan has every right to respond strongly to this act of war and a strong response is being given,” he writes.
