Opposition leader's bodyguard kidnapped by army chief: "He's in my basement"
The head of Uganda's military, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, claims to have kidnapped opposition leader Bobi Wine's bodyguard, AFP reports. On X, Kainerugaba writes that the bodyguard, Eddie Mutwe, has been "caught like a grasshopper".
"He's in my basement... your turn," Kainerugaba writes in a reply to Bobi Wine.
In addition to leading the army, Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the son and heir apparent of President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power in the country for 40 years. Former musician Bobi Wine has emerged as Museveni's main challenger.
Wine: Kidnapping shows how bad things are
The fact that Ugandan army chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba openly admits that he kidnapped opposition leader Bobi Wine's bodyguard Eddie Mutwe shows the world how bad the law and order situation is in the country. Bobi Wine himself tells AFP.
The army chief writes on X that the bodyguard is being held in his basement and as proof of this he has shared pictures of a naked Mutwe with a shaved head.
– The fact that Muhoozi confirms the abduction and illegal detention of Eddie Mutwe, and also shares pictures of him half-naked, shows the level of impunity the lawless regime has reached, says Wine.
