Trump: “I’m going to make a call and stop a war”
US President Donald Trump will contact the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia regarding the new fighting between the countries, Bloomberg reports.
– Who else can say that “I’m going to make a call and stop a war between two very powerful countries?” Trump said during a visit to Pennsylvania on Tuesday evening.
– We create peace through strength, he continued.
In July, Trump threatened the countries with trade restrictions, forcing a ceasefire. As late as October, the countries signed an agreement on an extended ceasefire, which was then put on hold.
Hundreds of thousands have been evacuated after border unrest
Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated from the conflict-hit border area between Thailand and Cambodia, AFP reports.
In Thailand, over 400,000 people have fled to shelters since the conflict began this summer. On the Cambodian side, over 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate.
Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, and as recently as Monday, Thailand carried out airstrikes in Cambodia.
