British partygate
Video shows Tory employee's Christmas party during lockdown
A video showing Conservative Party staff in the UK celebrating Christmas during the 2020 covid lockdown has been published by the Daily Mirror. In the video, employees are seen dancing, drinking and joking about being filmed.
- It's okay that you film as long as we don't broadcast live that we kind of break the rules, one person is heard to say.
At the time of the party, London had strict restrictions. It was forbidden to gather more than five people indoors, unless you belonged to the same family.
The video has caused great anger, both among political opponents and within the Tory Party.
- They openly mocked the rules to which the British people related themselves. The Tories think they are exempt from the rules that apply to everyone else, says Labour's Angela Rayner according to the BBC.

Investigation completed - Johnson deliberately misled parliamentarians on several occasions
Boris Johnson deliberately misled the British Parliament about the partygate scandal on several occasions when he was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. This is shown by a new investigation from the responsible committee of the parliament.
Sky News lists several examples from the report. On 1 December 2021, he told parliament that "all rules were fully followed" and a week later he stated that "the guidelines were followed at all times". Similar moves were made several times in the first half of 2022. According to the committee, he also misled the parliamentarians when he did not tell them what he himself knew about which rules had been broken.
The committee recommends a 90-day suspension. But Johnson preceded this with his resignation last Friday.
The investigation was released at 10 a.m. The British media are now going through the entire 30,000-word investigation in search of more conclusions. The committee has been working on the investigation for 14 months, according to the Financial Times.

Boris Johnson writes about weight problems in debut column
Boris Johnson's first column in the Daily Mail tabloid has been published. The text does not at all go into the partygate scandal and the scathing criticism that was directed at him in the subsequent investigation.
The former prime minister and member of parliament instead writes about his failed attempts to lose weight with the help of the diabetes medication Ozempic.
"The miracle medicine I hoped would stop my 11.30pm raids of the fridge in search of cheddar and chorizo didn't work on me," reads the headline.
The British Parliament's qualifications committee claims that Johnson broke the rules by taking a job at the Daily Mail without waiting for its decision, writes.
