The Statue of Liberty is barely visible in the dense, fiery yellow fog.
Now New York's mayor is warning about the bad air in the city.
- It is the first time we have experienced something like this, says Eric Adams.
Early on Wednesday morning, the city was briefly ranked as having the worst air pollution in the world.
A huge yellow cloud was seen over Yankee Stadium during the baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. LaGuardia Airport was also forced to close due to the poor visibility.
Warns people with asthma
New York City Mayor Eric Adams says climate change has worsened the situation and is now urging people with respiratory problems such as asthma not to exert themselves too much outdoors.
The call will remain in place until Thursday.

- This is the first time we have experienced something similar on this scale, but it will not be the last. Climate change accelerated these conditions, says Eric Adams.
The mayor now wants to see more action to tackle climate change.
-"New York City is clearly a national leader in public health and climate action, and these dangerous air quality conditions are clearly an urgent reminder that we must act now to protect our city, our environment and our children's future," he said.

Sanders: Time to act
The pollution risks weakening the immune system and leading to asthma, lung cancer and other chronic lung diseases. Especially in the vulnerable, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and younger children, writes NBC.
“Right now 98 MILLION people on the east coast are under poor air quality alerts from Canadian fires and last night NYC had the worst air quality in the world. Climate change is causing forest fires to become more common and more widespread. If we do nothing, this is our new reality. It's time to act," writes Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

The forest fires in Canada are described as the worst ever and they are expected to last until August. 3.3 million hectares have so far burned and 120,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes, writes Reuters.
- In the last 20 years, we have never seen such a large area burn so early in the season, researcher Yan Boulanger told Reuters.
