106 died in the boat accident: "Feel deep sadness"
More than 106 people have drowned and several are missing after a boat capsized on the Niger River in southwestern Nigeria, local authorities said, according to the BBC.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu "deeply regrets the grief" to the families of the victims.
- I am deeply saddened by the news of the tragic boat accident. That the victims were guests at a wedding ceremony made the unfortunate accident more painful, he says in a statement, writes AFP.
The boat's 250 passengers were departing from a wedding early Monday in Kwara state.
Boating accidents are common in Nigeria due to weather conditions, poor safety and congestion.
Last month, 15 children drowned on the river after an overcrowded boat capsized.

At least a hundred dead in boat accident in Nigeria
Over a hundred people have died in a boat accident in Nigeria, AP reports. The boat capsized early Monday morning on the Niger River in the north. According to the police, an intensive search for survivors is still underway.
On board the boat were people returning from a wedding. The fact that so many people died in the accident, the police believe, is due to the fact that it occurred at 03:00 and that it took several hours before the emergency services became aware of the incident.
