EU closer to AI law after parliament's go-ahead
The EU Parliament votes yes to the Commission's proposal for regulations in the AI area, several news agencies write. The announcement means that the EU is one step closer to the world's first legislation on AI.
A clear majority, 499 members, voted yes to the proposal. Only 28 voted no and 93 members abstained.
One of the cornerstones of the proposal is to divide the use of AI into four different risk groups. The higher the risk an AI application is deemed to have, the more stringent regulations it will receive.
The next step is negotiations between the parliament and the member states. The EU Commission aims for the law to enter into force at the turn of the year.

The EU Parliament votes on historic AI regulation
Today, the EU Parliament votes on a historic AI package, reports Politico.
The package includes which rules should apply to different systems where artificial intelligence is used within the EU. Among other things, it concerns the regulation of facial recognition in public places.
With the package, the EU will be the first in the world to legislate rules for AI. After the vote, the proposals must be forwarded to the member states and the laws can enter into force in two years at the earliest.
At 1:30 p.m., voting begins in Strasbourg.

Sources: Open AI warned Microsoft about AI stress with Bing
Open
AI – which is behind the GPT-4 language model – warned Microsoft
against pushing a new version of the Bing search engine using GPT-4
technology. This with reference to the language model needing more training. But Microsoft didn't listen, and chose to launch the new Bing anyway. This is claimed by sources to the Wall Street Journal.
It was also noticed after the launch of the new Bing that the tool had a lot of flaws. According
to the information, there must have been "conflicts and confusion"
behind the scenes of the collaboration between Microsoft and Open AI.
