Olympic canoeist arrested at the water surface: "I didn't touch anything"
Former Olympic canoeist David Hearn has been arrested, suspected of vandalizing the water surface at the Lincoln Memorial. NBC News reports.
The 67-year-old says he cycled past the water surface to "satisfy his curiosity" after reports of how the newly renovated monument had both lost its color and been filled with green algae. He admits that he reached into the water surface, but says he didn't destroy anything.
- I didn't destroy, break or touch anything. They handcuffed me before I even understood what was going on, Hearn tells the Washington Post.
He was released after five hours.
The water mirror will be drained and repaired – again
The water mirror at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, which was recently renovated for the equivalent of 122 million kronor, will be drained of water and repaired again. Donald Trump writes on Truth Social.
According to the president, the building has been subjected to sabotage by vandals who cut the pool with a knife and poured corrosive liquids into the water. No evidence of this has been presented, but several people have reportedly been arrested.
"We are very pleased with what we have done to this magnificent building, and we will fix it quickly so that it is as beautiful as it was," Trump writes.
