Elizabeth II
The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace is bursting with people hoping to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth.
Soon the big party concert with world stars will start on stage. But the biggest star of them all is the Queen.
- She is amazing. The queen means everything to me, says Margerie from Essex.
People have traveled from all over the world to see Queen Elizabeth celebrate 70 years on the throne.
On the parade street The Mall that leads up to Buckingham Palace, you can hear Japanese, Swedish, German, Spanish ... Yes, all the world's languages are mixed into a buzzing sound carpet.
On the street and in the park in front of the big stage, people have slammed up beach chairs, set up afternoon tea - or simply popped champagne corks since early morning.

- We have champagne!
Jenny and Jane are sisters from Kent. They are here with Jenny's husband Alan and good friend Pip who is from Banbury in Oxfordshire.
- Look! says Jenny, holding out a bottle of sizzling contents. On a camping table is a nice stand with pastries and cakes. The company has just enjoyed freshly baked scones.
- My sister has baked and we have jam and cream, says Jenny.
Set up a tent
The gang of friends came to Tha Mall at eight this morning to grab good seats in front of one of the giant TV screens.- We struggled to get our tents up.
We had eight people helping us. It was absolutely amazing! says Jenny.
Her sister Jane insists that they sleep in the tents tonight.
They are small and dome-shaped and do not seem to accommodate everyone, but the friends do not seem worried at all.

- That's the whole thing, this only happens once in your life, says Pip and beams.
Everywhere people sit and enjoy the sun, the buzz and away at the stage, the artists test the sound. The big headlights send lightning all the way to the end of The Mall.
- The queen has been on the throne for 70 years and it is a fantastic achievement. She is a person you can really look up to. She has been through so much through her reign. It is fantastic that we can gather like we do today and celebrate her, especially after covid, says Jane.
Alan longs for the music and the artists. He wants to laugh and have fun. And he already has fun. Alan's laughter erupts over the nearby picnic groups.
Is there any special artist you like?
- They are not here unfortunately haha! It's ABBA. She's that blonde girl you know. She's a big favorite, but she will not be here! Can you fix tickets haha!
I promise.

"We will shout and shout!"
Margerie from Maldon in Essex has long since retired. On her head she wears a big blue hat with the British flag on. The flag in her hand flings back and forth as she follows the music with her whole body.
- We will shout and shout and sing! Whatever it takes to celebrate! tjoar Margerie.
Her friend Louise is British but lives in France. Of course, she has come "home" to celebrate the queen.
- We've been here for maybe three hours. We have the best place in the world here. It's close to the toilets and close to Pimmsen!
The British drink sold in one of the stalls is her favorite.
- The queen means everything to me. I have followed her all my life, ever since I was eight years old, says Margerie.
Louisa agrees and adds that Queen Elizabeth represents all that is amazing about being British.
- That is why we are here and celebrate her today and celebrate all her years on the throne. We've been in London for three days and we're really trying to make the best of it.

"Can show all the way"
Marco and Diana live in England but are from Italy. Their little son has fallen asleep in the carriage despite the loud music and noise from all the people.
- The queen is an important symbol for the country. The politicians can be replaced but she remains and can show all the way, says Marco.

"IS UK"
Simon and Hugo from Yorkshire agree.
- The queen is continuity and stability. Whether it's good or bad times, the queen is there, says Simon.
They came here on Wednesday and have parked their brass chairs in the middle of the parade street. They have everything they need on the blanket next to it. Beer and goodies.
- It's wonderful with this atmosphere. Especially when The Mall is filled with people. There will be a lot of people here and in the parks.
- It will be a fantastic concert and to be able to celebrate the queen is nice. The Queen IS Great Britain. She is our country and she represents us, says Hugo.
