Donald Trump is said to be "furious" after the setbacks in the midterm elections.

At the same time, competitor Ron DeSantis is being celebrated after his big victory in Florida.

Now the advisers are appealing for him to cancel plans to make "a very big announcement" next week.

Ex-president Trump has been named the big loser of the midterm elections, even though he was not on any ballot.

Several of his appointed candidates lost to defeated Democrats - and the Republican "red wave" did not materialize.

According to sources to reporters Maggie Haberman of the New York Times and Jim Acosta of CNN, it was an angry Trump who woke up at Mar-a-Lago after a vigil that turned out to be less of a victory party than expected.

Angry at the loss of the TV doctor

The worst blow on Tuesday night was the loss in the Senate election in Pennsylvania, where Trump's candidate TV doctor Mehmet Oz, known after his time as a recurring guest on Oprah Winfrey, lost to Democrat John Fetterman.

The loss was not helped by the fact that Fetterman won despite suffering a stroke before the election and having difficulty expressing himself during the candidates' only televised debate.

“Trump is really furious this morning, especially about Mehmet Oz and blaming everyone who advised him to side with Oz. This also applies to his wife, he describes it as not being her best decision according to people close to him," writes
Maggie Haberman
on
Twitter.

Haberman adds that Trump chose to side with Oz despite the opposition of several of his advisers. He even went so far as to attack Oz's Republican opponent David McCormick during a speech in support of the TV doctor in the party's primary campaign.

"Screaming at everyone"

"Trump is 'furious' and 'yelling at everyone' after yesterday's setbacks for Republicans in the midterm elections, according to an adviser. The adviser sees the ex-president's handpicked candidates: "They were all bad candidates," he writes on
Twitter.

The setbacks were compounded by the fact that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, seen by many as Trump's main challenger if they both run for president in 2024, made a successful election overnight.

Where the Republicans as a whole underperformed, DeSantis won re-election with significantly higher numbers than expected. When he stepped out for his victory speech in Tampa, supporters shouted "two more years, two more years" even though the term he won is four.

They are convinced that he is the next president of the United States in 2024, writes The Guardian.

The conservative daily newspaper
New York Post,
which supported Trump in the 2020 election, had the headline "DeFuture" on its front page on Wednesday for a picture of DeSantis and his family cheering on stage after the victory.

The newspaper also published a column by
Piers Morgan
with the headline "It's time for the Republicans to dump grumpy Trump and bet on DeSantis".

"We have a Trump problem"

Fox News has spoken to a number of Republicans who blame the weak results on Donald Trump and the candidates he promoted to victory in the party's primaries.

- I think there is a growing feeling among Republicans that candidates who did not accept the outcome of the last election did not do well, said Republican consultant Brendan Steinhauser to
Fox News.

- If it wasn't clear before, it should be now. We have a Trump problem, a Republican member of Congress told the television channel.

Before the midterm elections, Trump warned DeSantis that there would be consequences if the governor chose to run for president.

- If he does it, he does it. But if he puts up, I can tell you things about him that aren't flattering. I know more about him than anyone else, except possibly his wife who is actually running his campaign, Donald Trump said.

The counselors plead

The former president has also announced that he intends to make "a very big announcement" from Mar-a-Lago next Tuesday. Most have assumed that it is about him entering the battle for the presidency.

After the fiasco on Tuesday night, several of his former and current advisers are now appealing for him to cancel the press conference and postpone it to the future.

"There is no indication that he will change his plans," writes Haberman on Twitter.

Acosta's informant says the same thing.

"Advisor says Trump unlikely to delay expected announcement on presidential campaign because canceling would be 'humiliating.' But the advisor believes that there is much that is unclear at this point," he writes on
Twitter.

"Big win for me"

People close to Trump tell
Fox News
that the media is trying to elevate Ron DeSantis to create drama ahead of the next primary election.

However, Donald Trump appears, at least outwardly, as a big winner after the results of the midterm elections.

“In a way, yesterday's election was a disappointment. But for me personally it was a great victory. 219 wins and 16 losses – who ever showed a better record”? he asks himself on his platform Truth Social.
