Xi: Hope Blinken contributes more to strengthened relationship
Chinese leader Xi Jinping wants US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to do more to strengthen the relationship between the US and China after his visit to China. He says this in connection with the meeting with Blinken in Beijing, AP reports with reference to Chinese state media.
- Interactions between states should always be based on mutual respect and sincerity. I hope that through this visit Minister Blinken can contribute to stabilizing the relationship between China and the United States, says Xi.
At the same time, the Chinese leader says that the countries made "progress" in their relations during Blinken's visit.
Monday's meeting takes place after Blinken sat down for a total of ten hours with the Chinese foreign minister and a top Chinese diplomat during his visit to Beijing.

Confirmed: Blinken meets Xi Jinping in Beijing today
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping today, AP writes. Blinken is in Beijing for a two-day visit to China with the aim of reducing friction between the countries. The US secretary of state has already met with China's counterpart Qin Gang and top diplomat Wang Yi, but a crucial question has been whether Xi would also show up, something that has now been confirmed at the last minute.
The ongoing conflicts between the countries are numerous, and are about everything from the war in Ukraine to Taiwan's sovereignty and Chinese spy balloons. If the Chinese leader had declined to meet Blinken, it would have been a major setback for the efforts to restore the relationship between the countries, AP writes.
Blinken's visit to China is expected to lead to further meetings between high-ranking US and Chinese officials, even a meeting between Joe Biden and Xi.

China to US: No Room for Taiwan Compromise
The US must choose between "dialogue or confrontation", "cooperation or conflict", in its relationship with China. This is what the Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi says after his meeting with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday, writes AFP.
Blinken is on a two-day visit to China with the aim of improving the relationship between the countries. At Monday's meeting, Wang is said to have blamed the bad relationship on the US and the country's "wrong perception of China". Wang also issued a warning regarding Taiwan.
"On this issue, China has no room for compromise," Wang is said to have told Blinken at the meeting.
Blinken met the Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang yesterday. Washington has described both days' meetings as "sincere" and "constructive".
