Re-election and increased security after attacks on polling stations
As India's elections opened on Friday, 11 of Manipur state's nearly 3,000 polling stations were attacked by gunmen, prompting election authorities to annul the results. On Monday, people got a chance to cast their votes again at the affected polling stations, reports the AP news agency.
Security around the re-election has been strengthened after the attacks.
Since May 2023, the state has had major problems with violence between ethnic groups, according to the news agency. About 200 people have been killed and over 60,000 people have been forced to flee their homes.

Sunak: Nothing is stopping the flights to Rwanda
The first planes with migrants to Rwanda will take off from the UK "in ten to twelve weeks", says British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at a press conference on Monday. This is reported by the British media.
The prime minister says plans to deport asylum seekers, which have been heavily criticized by courts and experts, can no longer be stopped.

13 prison guards arrested after torture alarm in Italy
On Monday, Italian police arrested 13 prison guards at a youth institution in Milan, reports the Italian news agency Ansa. They are suspected of having acted violently against young people.
According to a statement from the police, the guards are among other things guilty of complicity in torture, assault and attempted sexual violence. Another eight guards who were working at the facility at the time of the crimes have been suspended from their posts.
The police have, among other things, used wiretapping and surveillance footage from the institution. The investigation into the institution has been ongoing since 2022.

Three arrested in Germany - allegedly spied for China
Three people have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of spying on behalf of China, the Reuters news agency reports, citing a statement from German prosecutors on Monday.
The arrested, two men and a woman, are suspected, among other things, of handing over technology that can be used for military purposes. Two of those arrested are a married couple who ran a business in Düsseldorf. They are said to have cooperated with the Chinese intelligence service MSS.
Last week, two people were arrested in Bavaria on suspicion of spying for Russia.
