Analysis: The ghost of 1968 is in danger of returning
In August 1968, the United States was rocked by violent Vietnam demonstrations during the Democratic Convention in Chicago. Now it's bubbling at universities across the country as students show their anger against the Gaza war. Coincidentally, the Democratic convention is being held this summer in Chicago.
The symmetry is noticed by New York Times writer Charles Blow, who writes that Joe Biden should take the signals from the country's universities seriously.
"There seems to be an idea within the Biden campaign that you can only wait out the demonstrations [...] then you are playing a dangerous game," writes Blow.
Le Monde's US correspondent Arnaud Leparmentier describes the campus protests as fox scissors for Joe Biden.
"He risks alienating both young and Jewish voters."

Student protests grow - mass arrests across the US
Demonstrations in support of Gaza intensified at universities across the United States on Wednesday. In total, around a hundred people were arrested and taken into custody, from the University of Southern California in the west to Columbia University in the east.
The heated debate over the Gaza protests has led to a wave of demonstrations on campuses across the country. In Pittsburgh and San Antonio, among others, demonstrations of support were held for the students at Columbia who occupied the campus area, writes the New York Times.
Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House of Representatives, visited Columbia University on Wednesday and called for an end to the occupation.
- It is shameful that Columbia has allowed these lawless activists and radicals to take over, he said and was met with boos from many listeners.

Studentprotesterna växer – massgripanden i hela USA
Demonstrationerna till stöd för Gaza intensifierades på universitet över hela USA på onsdagen. Totalt greps och omhändertogs ett hundratal personer, från University of Southern California i väst till Columbiauniversitetet i öst.
Den hårda debatten om Gazaprotester har lett till en våg av demonstrationer på lärosäten i hela landet. I bland annat Pittsburgh och San Antonio hölls stöddemonstrationer för de studenter på Columbia som ockuperat campusområdet, skriver New York Times.
Mike Johnson, talman i representanthuset, besökte Columbiauniversitetet på onsdagen och krävde ett stopp på ockupationen.
– Det är skamligt att Columbia har låtit dessa laglösa aktivister och radikaler ta över, sa han och möttes av burop från många åhörare.
