She wanted to stay until the summer, but Trump rejected her plea.

Instead, the president whispered five words to Pam Bondi.

Then she was fired.

The president is said to have whispered the five words during a conversation that took place on Wednesday in his car "The Beast". Trump and Bondi were on their way from the White House to the Supreme Court in Washington DC.

They were to attend a meeting regarding citizenship, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Pam Bondi, who was sworn in as US Attorney General in February last year, is said to have pleaded with the 79-year-old president to stay in her post until the summer.

But Trump rejected her request, according to the Wall Street Journal.

– I think it's time.

Those five words were the last Pam Bondi heard as US Attorney General.

The two have previously discussed Bondi's time in the administration on several occasions. The discussions began several months ago, when Trump expressed dissatisfaction with how quickly she was pushing the president's agenda.

Bondi's dismissal is the second major change in Trump's administration after he previously dismissed Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security.

“We love Pam”

It was not a single issue that led to Bondi’s firing, but “a steady stream of frustrations,” including the handling of the Epstein files and the lack of positive media coverage directed at the Justice Department, sources told the Wall Street Journal.

“We love Pam, and she will move on to a much-needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected legal mind, Todd Blanche, will step in as Acting Attorney General,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform on Thursday.

Todd Blanche is a possible permanent replacement, but Trump has also reportedly considered Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin to take over the Justice Department. The former Long Island congresswoman is already a favorite to succeed Pam Bondi among a list of strong Trump supporters.

Other names mentioned in the context are Washington DC federal prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Despite receiving the news during the car ride early Wednesday, Pam Bondi remained at the White House that evening, when she attended Trump's address to the nation about the war in Iran.

On Thursday night, Bondi commented on her resignation and promised to continue fighting for Trump.

"Leading President Trump's historic and highly successful work to make America safer has been the honor of a lifetime, and without a doubt the most significant first year for the Department of Justice in the history of the United States," she wrote on X.

She continued:

"I am eternally grateful for the trust President Trump has placed in me to make America safe again."
