Sources: US general warns – cannot protect Israel
The US does not have enough warships in the Mediterranean to be able to continue protecting Israel from ballistic missiles.
This is stated by the US supreme commander in Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, reports The Washington Post, citing sources.
In a statement to the Pentagon, he reportedly warns that additional destroyers are needed in the eastern Mediterranean so that he is not forced to prioritize the protection of the US mainland over the protection of Israel.
The warning highlights how strained the US Navy is right now, partly due to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports in connection with the Iran war.
Naval forces in the Mediterranean have long played an important role in shooting down projectiles, not only from Iran, but also from the Houthi movement in Yemen.
