A couple of weeks ago, I reported that the main emerging rival to Prayut Chan-ocha as Thailand's next prime minister is ambitious bureaucrat Ampon Kitti-ampon, an ally of King Vajiralongkorn. https://www.facebook.com/zenjournalist/posts/10156790215601154 … 1/5
Some palace officials believe Prayut is too divisive to be a successful
post-election PM, and favour Ampon as the head of a "unity" government.
Ampon is very keen to get the job and has been boasting to several
people that he expects to become PM with the backing of the king
Thai media have started reporting the possibility of Ampon becoming
prime minister, and now even some foreign media are covering the story. https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Thai-election/Unexpected-contender-emerges-as-potential-Thai-premier … 3/5
But while it's true that Ampon is a much less controversial figure than Prayut, he can never be a unifying political leader because if he becomes prime minister, everybody would know that he only got the job because King Vajiralongkorn ordered it. 4/5
It would be further proof that the March 24 elections were a sham, that Thai democracy is fake, and that the government is chosen by the monarchy and military, not by the people. 5/5
