Appears after the Russian flight pressure: "We are here in Kiev"
The
President's video response at dusk
In the video, Volodymyr Zelenskyj is standing in the government quarter
of the capital Kiev.
He is surrounded by a group of employees and
reportedly responds to rumors circulating in the Russian media that he
had left the country.
-
We are here, we are in Kiev, we are defending Ukraine, he says.
-The video has been posted on the president's own Telegram channel and is
spread on social media such as Twitter.
Appeals for help
- The video is posted at the same time as the Ukrainian capital is invaded
by Russia. Pictures from shattered houses and and fleeing people have
dominated the news during the day.
"Russian tanks are still shelling residential buildings in our city,"
Volodymyr Zelenskyj said earlier in the day, according to the BBC.
He appealed to the outside world, in particular the EU, to do more to
stop the invasion.
- "Europe is strong enough to stop this aggression," he said.
- The tank columns and air raids are very similar to what Europe
experienced a long time ago, during World War II. They said "never
again" but now it happens again. Now, 2022, 75 years after the end of
World War II.
