Russian military has captured the village of Bogdanivka in eastern Ukraine, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, several media outlets write.
The village is only three kilometers from Tjasiv Jar. A city that has been described as strategically important as it has long served as an artillery base and regrouping point for Ukrainian soldiers.
"Taking Tjasiv Yar offers Russian forces the most immediate prospect for operationally significant progress," the US think tank ISW wrote earlier this week.
The information that the Russians took Bogdanivka has not been commented on by Ukraine.

Think tanks track increased attacks while waiting for support
While waiting for the US military aid package to become a reality, Russia is reportedly intensifying its attacks on Ukraine. That's according to the American think tank ISW.
The House of Representatives approved the military aid package on Saturday night. Now it will go on to the Senate and be signed by President Joe Biden before it reaches the Ukrainians. A procedure that can take weeks.
"The situation on the front line will therefore likely continue to deteriorate during that time," ISW writes in the report.
The think tank assesses that Ukraine's situation will only improve before the summer, in June.

Millions of demands put pressure on Swedish companies that leave Russia
Swedish companies face legal challenges trying to leave Russia because of the sanctions related to the war in Ukraine. This is reported by TT.
- Russian legislation can overtake the Western one, says Erik Forsin, co-owner of the law firm Baker McKenzie, to the news agency.
Amendments to Russian law from 2020 give Russian courts the right to adjudicate disputes that would otherwise have been settled in other countries.
Companies from about 30 countries in the West that have been singled out by Russia as "unfriendly minds" are covered by the problem.
Among the affected are Swedish Länsförsäkringar and Volvo Cars. The companies have received compensation claims from Russian counterparts of around SEK 40 and 70 million respectively, according to Russian court documents that TT has seen.

Saab's CEO warns: Excessive protectionism in EU strategy
Saab CEO Micael Johansson warns the EU against becoming too protectionist when the defense industry is to be built up in the wake of the war in Ukraine. This is reported by the Financial Times.
The statement comes at the same time as EU member states discuss proposals for the Union's first defense industrial strategy.
Among other things, the EU plans to increase purchases from European defense suppliers so that they make up 50 percent of the budget by 2030.
This has created concern among some EU countries and industry leaders that the strategy may become too restrictive. Discussions are ongoing about whether countries such as Great Britain, the United States and Turkey should be included under certain conditions, the newspaper writes.
Johansson believes that companies outside Europe should also be able to participate and contribute to the area's defense capacity.

Republicans rage over support: "Traitor"
Republicans who opposed US military support to Ukraine are raging after the House of Representatives approved a package equivalent to 650 billion kroner.
Conservative Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene has previously threatened to try to oust Speaker Mike Johnson if the aid package passes. In a post on the platform X, she calls Johnson a "traitor".
"Johnson has once again passed a bill with the help of Democrats while the majority of Republicans voted against," she writes.
The Republicans who oppose support for Ukraine believe that the US should instead prioritize domestic issues and strengthen the US border with Mexico, reports Sveriges Radio.

Biden hails aid package: "Shows global leadership"
US President Joe Biden welcomes that the House of Representatives finally voted yes to a new comprehensive support package for Ukraine, wrote TT. In a statement on the White House website, Biden says that the decision is a "clear message of American leadership globally".
He is also asking the Senate to process the proposal quickly so it can end up on his desk for signature.
Biden especially thanks Republican Speaker Mike Johnson, who for several months refused to bring the proposal up for a vote. Johnson has been under intense pressure from Republicans close to Donald Trump, who are critical of more US support for Ukraine.
