Middle East Crisis Israel vs Iran

Iranian Arms Requests Get Cold Hands from Putin

The strategic partnership that Iran and Russia signed at the beginning of the year has not been of much help to Tehran in connection with the Israeli and US attacks, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Iran has provided both the missiles and drones that Russia has used to spread death and misery in Ukraine. But Iran has not received any Russian weapons, despite promises to do so.

For example, Russia promised to send new air defense systems after Israel destroyed their systems last year, but none of them were delivered. In addition, Russia promised to send several different fighter jets, but only delivered training aircraft.

Iran has basically only received rhetorical support from its strategic partner, the newspaper notes.

Iran and Israel: Will respect the ceasefire

There are mixed messages from Iran and Israel about the armed conflict. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signals that it is completely over, reports AFP.

– Today, after our nation's heroic resistance and historic determination, we witness the introduction of a ceasefire and the end of the twelve-day war, he says, according to the state news agency Irna.

At the same time, Eyal Zamir, chief of the IDF General Staff, states that Israel's campaign against Iran "is not over" even though today's ceasefire means "the end of a significant chapter".

However, both sides have stated that they intend to respect the ceasefire as long as the other side does.

Zamir adds that the IDF's focus is now shifting back to Gaza, according to Sky News.

Netanyahu: We have won a historic victory

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proclaims a "historic victory" in a speech to the nation, reports AFP.

He states that Israel will never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.

– We have stopped Iran's nuclear weapons program. If anyone in Iran tries to build it again, we will act with equal determination and intensity.

Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian opened up for new negotiations on the country's nuclear program, but stated that it will assert its right to use the technology for peaceful purposes.

According to a preliminary US intelligence report, which sources to CNN and the New York Times have seen, the US did not succeed in destroying the facilities, but only erased a few months of Iranian progress.
