Food deliveries to West Bank halved
Few and fewer people in the West Bank are receiving food aid.
– The WFP (the UN Food and Agriculture Organization) is being forced to halve the number of people we are helping in the West Bank, says Shaun Hughes, the UN agency's representative in the Palestinian territories.
– This is happening at a time when the food need in the West Bank is more than double what it was two years ago.
200,000 people will receive food aid, compared to the 400,000 who have received it so far.
Access to food has historically not been a major problem in the West Bank, Hughes points out. He points to the escalated violence from Israeli settlers, greater interventions by the Israeli military, demolitions and displacements as reasons for the worsening of the situation.
